A major milestone for the civil service as Cayman is set to get its first female Deputy Governor. Gloria Mcfield-Nixon has been appointed and will head the Cayman Islands Civil Service on 8 July, 2026, succeeding Honorable Franz Manderson when his term ends.
The Law Reform Commission is set to release a public consultation paper between May and June 2025, with a final report and draft legislation due before the end of the year — following voters’ backing of decriminalising small amounts of cannabis in April 2025.

Cayman gets first female deputy governor
Cayman’s first female deputy governor, Gloria McField-Nixon, will take up the post in the summer, Government House has said.
McField-Nixon, who is currently chief officer in the Portfolio of the Civil Service, will become head of the civil service as well.
She said in a statement, “This is a role I approach with great humility, enthusiasm and a profound sense of responsibility.
