Turtle rescue

Last week, a quick-thinking divemaster at Eden Rock spotted a large loggerhead turtle that had become stuck at the base of a mooring line with a rope between its head and right front flipper.

It is possible the turtle could have drowned if scuba diver Ruby Stafford hadn’t approached it and managed to startle it enough that it cleared the rope and headed on its way — probably looking for a mate.

Now, here is an interesting fact: a record number of sea turtles nested on Cayman beaches in 2023, with 810 nests recorded.
