Forefront – Economic impact of financial services examined
Cayman’s financial services industry has released new preliminary figures on its economic impact, with the full Cayman Finance–commissioned report expected at the end of the month. The early findings show the sector contributes billions to government revenue and supports thousands of local jobs.
On Forefront, economist and Financial Services Institute Founder Paul Byles breaks down what these results mean, looks at where the industry is headed, and explains why training and strategy continue to be critical if Caymanians are to benefit fully.

Former Grand Court judge Sir Peter Cresswell passes away
Sir Peter Cresswell, who served as a judge in the Cayman Islands Grand Court for five years, has passed away. He was 81 years old.
Cresswell, who was one of the first justices in the Cayman courts’ Financial Services Division, which he was instrumental in establishing, died on 10 Sept.
Cresswell had been a judge of the High Court, Queen’s Bench Division and the Commercial Court of England and Wales between 1991 and 2008. From 1993-94, as the judge in charge of the Commercial Court, he was responsible for the first practice direction which encouraged litigants to consider mediation as an alternative to expensive and time-consuming litigation.
