Manifesto Breakdown
Turning now to our five-part series breaking down how political parties hope to tackle complex national issues.
We begin with traffic — a seemingly insurmountable problem that forces some commuters out of their beds before the crack of dawn.
From standstill traffic stretching for miles, to reckless speeding that often ends in scenes of carnage, Cayman’s roads are not for the faint of heart.
Recent reports from road safety entities reveal that, as of the end of last month, more than 50,000 vehicles were registered to travel on Cayman’s roads — coupled with more than 62,000 licensed drivers — an increase of nearly 22% from the last count.
Along with the surge in commuters is an increase in collisions and other traffic offences, with the latest statistics showing a year-on-year rise in offences for speeding, driving while impaired, and even fatal collisions.
With no end in sight to the lawless road conditions, voters are now looking to political hopefuls for solutions.
