Coast Guard encourages maritime safety

Commander Robert Scotland of the Cayman Islands Coast Guard says combatting intoxicated boaters and proper boating etiquette are items on his agenda.

With a goal to make Caymans waters safer, he encourages all maritime vessel operators to have a VHF radio, life vests and a kill switch.

Armed robber targets West Bay store in weekend robbery

Police are hunting a black-clad gunman who robbed a grocery store at the weekend.

The raider pointed what appeared to a handgun at staff and demanded money. He escaped with cash and some tobacco products. No one was injured.

The robbery occurred at a store in the Mount Pleasant Road area of West Bay at about 3:30pm on Sunday 20 July.
