Members of the Cayman Islands Regiment are taking part in an intensive disaster response camp, practising search and rescue, casualty care and recovery operations to strengthen readiness for hurricanes, floods and other emergencies.
Deputy Governor Franz Manderson attended his final Official Opening of Parliament on Friday, marking the end of a 44-year career serving the Cayman Islands. Premier Andre Ebanks, Opposition Leader Joey Hew, and Minister Nickolas DaCosta were among those paying tribute to Manderson, praising his integrity, leadership, and lifelong dedication to his people.

Cayman residents lament the suspension of direct flights to Havana
The suspension of Cayman Airways’ direct flights to Havana has drawn concern among Cayman’s Cuban community and Caymanians with family and other ties to the island, many of whom say the route was an important link for family visits, travel between the two countries and the delivery of charitable aid during Cuba’s ongoing economic crisis.
Cayman Airways announced on 17 June that it will temporarily suspend its weekly Grand Cayman-Havana service from 26 June after determining the route was no longer economically viable.
