Nearly 100 fans, friends and former schoolmates lined up to welcome Jaiden Reid back to the Cayman Islands after the 21-year-old sprinter stunned the world with a 19.63-second 200-metre run at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
Residents and visitors are being urged to take precautions as another Saharan dust cloud makes its way toward the Cayman Islands. A health warning is due to take effect throughout the weekend from Friday to Sunday. Saharan dust degrades air quality and can exacerbate allergies and respiratory issues, though it can limit tropical storm development.
A public holiday motion passed in parliament this week for the creation of a National Day of Wellness. Bodden Town West MP Chris Saunders presented the motion for an additional public holiday in October, suggesting Cayman lead the way in focusing on the wellness of its people.

Government reveals specific single-use plastic items it intends to ban
Specific single-use plastic products could be banned under legislation currently being drawn up by government.
Replying to a question from opposition member Roy Tatum on the issue in Parliament, Minister of District Administration and Home Affairs Nickolas DaCosta said that, in honour of Earth Day, Cabinet had granted approval to amend current laws to prohibit the importation of specific single-use plastics, as well as to provide for an exception to allow temporary importation of single-use plastics in emergency situations.
