Cayman experienced an earthquake yesterday, 44km south-southeast of Bodden Town. Fortunately there were no after shocks or significant impacts, though government officials are warning the public to remain vigilant.

Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture, Demoy Nash, says the DOA always has a quarter a year supply of fertilizer as back up. He says the North American suppliers the department uses for fertilizer are not impacted by the shortages brought on by the Strait of Hormuz being closed.

Magnitude 4.5 earthquake shakes Cayman
A magnitude 4.5 earthquake struck off the south coast of Grand Cayman on the morning of Tuesday 28 July, triggering a government emergency alert, prompting the evacuation of buildings and leading some residents to report feeling possible aftershocks.
According to the United States Geological Survey, the earthquake occurred at 8:42am Cayman time. It was centred about 44 kilometres south-southeast of Bodden Town at coordinates 18.889°N, 81.136°W and at a depth of 10 kilometres.
