Opposition Defends NICE Programme
Deputy Opposition Leader, Hon. Kenneth Bryan, did not take kindly to remarks made about the National Community Enhancement Programme by Caymanian Employment Minister Hon. Michael Myles.
Mr Bryan acknowledged the NCFC Government’s commitment to fixing the labour market, but said these plans won’t happen overnight. Therefore, the NICE programme should have funding in the interim.
Former Minister of Commerce, Infrastructure and Planning — now Leader of the Opposition — Hon. Joey Hew, said he has witnessed first-hand how the NICE programme has helped people gain full-time employment. Mr Hew added that the initiative helped his government understand gaps in the labour market.
Meanwhile, Mr Myles said on Radio Cayman that the NCFC has financial struggles, and they are exploring options to host the programme this year.

PPM: We are in rebuilding phase
The leaders of the People’s Progressive Movement say they are in the process of rebuilding their party and still intend to implement as much of their election manifesto as possible.
Leader of the Opposition Joey Hew and Deputy Opposition Leader Kenneth Bryan were speaking on 10 July on Compass TV’s Forefront political talk show.
The PPM secured the most seats of any political party in the general election last April, but it was still not enough to form a government. And with just seven PPM members elected to Parliament, successful candidates from the two rival parties joined forces with independents to secure the 10 seats needed to form the government.
